PS) Except for the Cayenne, this is my recipe for gluten free pancakes!
A Little History of Onion Rings
While no one knows exactly who invented the first onion ring, recipes for battered and fried onions have appeared in cookbooks for more than a century. Onion rings became especially popular in American diners and burger restaurants during the mid-twentieth century and remain a favorite comfort food today.
Tips for Crispy Onion Rings
For the crispiest onion rings, make sure the oil is hot before frying. Avoid overcrowding the pan, which can lower the oil temperature and result in soggy onion rings. Sweet onions, such as Texas Sweet or Vidalia onions, work especially well because of their mild flavor.
Another Family Favorite
A really good recipe my family loves is frying onion rings using pancake batter. It's not gluten free, but they are simply amazing!
